SRAM pART Project, Sabbatical work, and Bicycle Parts

In 2012 I was invited to take part in The SRAM pART Project. Participating artists were given bike parts and asked to incorporate them into sculpture or collage works that would then be auctioned as a fundraiser for World Bicycle Relief.

During that summer I worked on three main pieces that incorporated the bicycle parts. The project was inspiring to me and opened up a whole new world of inspirations for my work. I thought of the bike parts as supporting and enhancing the biological forms I rendered in clay. I considered the bike parts as prostheses and man made adaptations for the abstracted versions of natural form.

In 2013 I was granted a sabbatical to further explore the ideas first addressed in my pART Project work. My sabbatical gave me Fall 2013 to focus on my sculpture. I stretched this project to include summer and winter break.

Since the end of my sabbatical, I have continued to work on related mixed media scupture in my more limited studio time.
